From outdoorsy adventures to indoor creativity
What a summer it's been. Dragon boats out on the water, garden games spilling across lawns, teams laughing in the sun without a single Plan B in sight. These have been the days when the weather did half the work for us. Now the light is softening, the diaries are turning towards autumn, and we start to hear the same question at this time every year. Does the fun stop when the weather does?
Not a chance, thankfully; it just changes shape.
Indoors isn't a fallback for rainy afternoons. It's a different palette entirely. Warm light instead of open sky. Keeping hands and heads busy, instead of feet moving. This tends to be a gentler gear change that suits the mood of the year, when people are back from holidays and heading into the long final stretch before Christmas. And there's something autumn offers that summer rarely does: something to take home at the end. A candle, a printed tote, a canvas, a box of chocolates. A small, unexpected souvenir of a good day with people you like.
Creative indoor team building at its best
Autumn is prime time for creative indoor team building, and it's some of the most connecting work we do. It offers a different pace and energy, with different kinds of memories made.
Candle making is a lovely place to start. Melting, pouring, scenting, decorating. There's something calming about it, and something subtly surprising about what people make in an hour. The one-hour beeswax version works beautifully as a reset between conference sessions, when a coffee break isn't quite enough to lift the mood and energy of the room.
Indian block printing is an ancient craft with a fresh appeal. Hand-carved blocks, fabric paints, colour going down on cotton across a table of colleagues comparing their patterns. It's immersive! Everyone leaves with a printed tote or apron, plus a gift wrap, tag and card. Practical, beautiful, and thoroughly satisfying.
Palette & Pour is exactly what it sounds like. A brush in one hand, a glass in the other, with a canvas each, and an expert to guide the way. No experience is required and no pressure to be Picasso. People surprise themselves!
The Masterpiece Challenge is a favourite of ours. Each team paints a panel, and at the end the panels come together into one big piece that goes back to the office wall. This is where people are working together rather than against each other, seeing what everyone made once it's assembled. A rather lovely reminder of what a team can be and actually is.
If you fancy something more unusual, chocolate making and molecular gastronomy are both worth a look too.
A festive lift as the year winds down
There's a good stretch of autumn before Christmas arrives. October and November are cosy months for a creative day, indoors and warm, with no need to make it festive yet.
