The Power of Green Space: why a patch of grass can change the whole day

We experience it each day. The meeting room with no windows, the hum of the aircon in an open plan office, the slump landing just after lunch when the biscuits have gone and there are six items left on the agenda. You can feel the focus draining from the room, as everyone fades into the ether.

We all know the fix, don’t we? Step outside and get some fresh air; stand on a bit of grass and let your head clear. Go for a short walk; even five minutes will do it. We know it works, but how often can we actually do it with a full day, a room full of people and a packed agenda?

Often, it’s as simple as opening a door.

Green space doesn’t mean acres

What does “green space” bring to mind? A sweeping country estate, or a windswept field, miles from the nearest road? “Green space” can be a hotel lawn, a courtyard between sessions, a patch of grass outside the conference room, or a leafy city square (this is the UK, so weather permitting!) The size of the space matters far less than the change of scenery.

What a few minutes outside really does

So much of our work is fixed behind a screen: at a desk, on back-to-back calls, at the kitchen table doubling as a home office. Whole days can pass without much daylight, or a proper conversation with another human being.

Yet it takes surprisingly little effort to undo that. Studies suggest that around 20 minutes in nature can lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol: you don’t need a forest, because a local park does the job. Time outside links to better mood and self-esteem, even in short bursts. A few minutes among greenery is a proper reset, not just a nice-to-have.

At an event, that reset really works. Fresh air and a change of setting loosens people up: they talk more openly, have fun and enjoy themselves, and that lift carries into the next session. It’s wellbeing earning its keep, not ticking a box. Water has its own pull, as we wrote in our blue health piece, but green space is the thing most venues already have on their doorstep.

Whatever space you’ve got, we’ll use it

Have you already booked somewhere? Tell us the space, and what you want from the day, and we’ll make it work specifically for you: garden games at a drinks reception, a team challenge on the lawn, a courtyard interval between sessions, or urban ideas when there’s no grass in sight. If you’re not sure where to start, that’s the part we love most!

We’re a family-run team, and that shapes our work. We understand people, what brings them together, what makes them tick and switch off, and how the right moment outdoors brings out the best in them. Whatever the space, we build around your brief and budget, never using a fixed menu.

A good day out is the easy part, but what really matters is how your people feel by the end of it: closer, lighter, with great conversations and reconnections. We shape your day around that; the family touch we’re known for.

A little green really does go a long way. If you’d like to make more of the outdoor space at your next event, give us a call on 07767 250192 or email us at events@tag-events.com.

We’d love to help you plan a day you and your team won’t forget….‍
