Charity begins at work

With the challenges the world has faced over the past few years, the importance of giving back and helping others has become starkly clear – both as a corporate responsibility, and on an individual level.

A charity challenge is a fantastic way to bring your team together to achieve a worthwhile goal, right from initial team discussions to decide which charity you want to focus on for your event. Not only can charity challenges be beneficial for teambuilding; they can be an effective way of demonstrating your company values and can also provide positive PR which is great from a business perspective.

At TAG, we love to work on bespoke bookings – especially when they are in support of excellent causes!

A yearly challenge

Take the William Jackson Food Group (WJFG) for example. As part of their ‘Better World’ commitments, WJFG bring together members from their five different businesses for several events over the year, including a yearly Charity Challenge.

This year’s event was in the Peak District, and six representatives from each business took part.

Day one consisted of a 17km bike ride around Howden and Derwent Reservoirs, and day two was a minimum of 18km walking, with some groups adding additional peaks, up to 25km. Incredible!

They raised £8.5k for their chosen charities – each business selected the charity they wanted to support, and the business which raised the most money had an additional £1k donated by WJFG to their charity, while each of the other charities received an extra £250 from WJFG.

Abel and Cole provided the chefs, who created delicious dishes to keep the teams well-nourished for two full days of intense physical activity.

TAG’s input

We were delighted to help organise this amazing event, by arranging overnight accommodation, planning the walking and cycling routes and providing a team of mountain leaders and support staff.

We also ensured the event was focused around WJFG’s company values: try your hardest; play your part; be positive; collaborate; it’s important to care; and learn from mistakes.

We’ll be working with WJFG next year on some further exciting events including a driving challenge, a cookery challenge, a raft build and race, a team challenge quiz, an awards day, and their next Charity Challenge, which will be hiking in beautiful Snowdonia. We can’t wait!

Charity Events are a win-win-win

It’s sometimes hard to create a business case for corporate events, especially when the economy is erratic and businesses are struggling. However, adding a charity angle means you automatically get a better return on your investment because you achieve the important task of getting your people out and about which is so important for their own mental and physical health, as well as contributing to the charitable or community goals that your business has. The third win, and the most important perhaps, is that the charity itself gets the benefit of your efforts.

So, if you have an active charity challenge that want to involve your team or your company in, speak to us at TAG.

We can arrange logistics, accommodation and guides/activity leaders, anywhere in the UK.

Or, if you like the idea but aren’t sure what charitable event you could put on within your team, we can give you lots of different options so you can find an activity which inspires you.

Get in touch today and we can start working on your company’s charity challenge.
